A native of Debeljak, Croatia, Master Sergeant Ivica Jerak died 25 August 2005, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his position in Husaybah, Iraq.

Jerak enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1988 as a Combat Medic and was assigned to the 690th Medical Company, Fort Benning, Georgia. After graduating from the Special Forces Qualification Course he served in the 10th Special Forces Group, Fort Carson, Colorado.

MSG Jerak was serving as an Assistant Special Operations Team Sergeant, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM when he was killed.
