Staff Sergeant Daniel D. Busch, of Portage, Wisconsin, died on 3 October 1993 while supporting Operation CONTINUE HOPE in Somalia.

Busch enlisted in the Army in 1986 as an Infantryman and completed Infantry One Station Unit Training, Airborne School, and the Ranger Indoctrination Program at Fort Benning, Georgia, before assignment to 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. While there, he deployed to Panama in support of Operation JUST CAUSE. Busch was later selected for service as a Special Operations Team Member.

SSG Busch deployed to Somalia in August 1993 as part of Task Force Ranger. During the Battle of Mogadishu, he was fatally wounded by small arms fire while defending a downed MH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, U.S. Army Special Forces Command, at the time of his death.
