SGT James C. Joyce

Sergeant James C. Joyce of Denton, Texas, died on 3 October 1993 while supporting Operation CONTINUE HOPE in Somalia.
Joyce enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1990 as an Infantryman. Following completion of Infantry One Station Unit Training, Airborne School and the Ranger Indoctrination Program, SGT Joyce reported to Company B, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, at Fort Benning, Georgia. Once there, he attended the Ranger Course and Pathfinder Course. After an assignment at the School of the Americas at Fort Benning, SGT Joyce returned to 3rd Ranger Battalion.
In August 1993, SGT Joyce deployed with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, to Somalia as part of Task Force Ranger. He was serving as an Assistant Team Leader when he was mortally wounded by small arms fire during the Battle of Mogadishu.
