SFC Gregory D. Cardott

Sergeant First Class Gregory D. Cardott of San Mateo, California, died on 12 January 1995 while supporting Operation UPHOLD DEMOCRACY in Haiti.
Cardott enlisted in the U.S. Army as an Infantryman in 1977. After a short break in service, he rejoined the Army in 1983, after which he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He completed Special Forces Qualification Course in 1984, and was assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion, 7th SFG. Following an assignment at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, SFC Cardott joined 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg.
SFC Cardott was manning a checkpoint near Gonaives, Haiti, when he mortally wounded by small arms fire. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group at the time of his death.
