SFC Christopher J. Speer

Sergeant First Class Christopher J. Speer was born in Denver, Colorado, in 1973. He died on 7 August 2002 as a result of wounds received in action on 27 July in Afghanistan.

Speer enlisted in the Army as a Medical Specialist in 1992 and was assigned to the U.S. Army Hospital at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. In late 1994, he volunteered for the Special Forces Qualification Course. On graduating as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant he joined the 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

SFC Speer was assigned to Headquarters, U.S. Army Special Operations Command in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM at the time of his death.
