From Kennebunkport, Maine, First Sergeant Christopher D. Coffin died on 1 July 2003 in a vehicle accident on Highway 8 in Iraq.

Coffin enlisted in the Army in 1971 as an Armor Crewman. After completing Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, he served in 2nd Battalion, 33rd Armored Regiment in Ayers Kaserne, Germany. In 1974 he joined the U.S. Army Reserve. Before being promoted to 1SG, he was a Team Sergeant in 404th Civil Affairs Battalion, Fort Dix, New Jersey.

1SG Coffin was serving in the 352nd Civil Affairs Command, Riverdale Park, Maryland, supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM at the time of his death.
