A Missouri native, Staff Sergeant Daniel L. Kisling died on 30 January 2003 as a result of an MH-60 Black Hawk crash near Bagram, Afghanistan.

Kisling enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1992 as a Power Generator Equipment Mechanic. The following year, he went on active duty and retrained as a Tactical Transport Helicopter Mechanic assigned to 2nd Battalion, 82nd Aviation Regiment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In 1998, he completed Green Platoon and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

SSG Kisling was deployed with 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment as a MH-60 Crew Chief in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM at the time of his death.
