A native of Beaverton, Oregon, Specialist Joseph A. Jeffries was killed on 29 May 2004 by an improvised explosive device during a combat patrol near Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Jeffries enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in October 2001 as a Psychological Operations Trainee. Following graduation from the Psychological Operations Specialist Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he was assigned to the 320th Psychological Operations Company, Portland, Oregon. His unit was activated and attached to the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force - Afghanistan.
SPC Jeffries was assigned as a Psychological Operations Specialist supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM at the time of his death.
