A resident of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Sergeant First Class Curtis Mancini died on 29 January 2004 of injuries sustained when an ammunition dump exploded near Ghazni, Afghanistan.
Mancini enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1981. In 1987 he transferred to the Florida Army National Guard and served with 3rd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group, Camp Blanding, Florida, and 487th Civil Affairs Battalion, Perrine, Florida.
SFC Mancini was assigned to the 486th Civil Affairs Battalion, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM at the time of his death.
