A native of Highland, Indiana, Private First Class Nathan E. Stahl was killed on 21 September 2004, by an improvised explosive device while on a combat patrol in central Iraq.

Stahl enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in June 2003 and completed Basic Combat Training, Advanced Individual Training, and the Basic Airborne Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. He graduated from the Ranger Indoctrination Program in January 2004.

PFC Stahl was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Lewis, Washington, where he served until his death during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
