A native of Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, Sergeant First Class Pedro A. Munoz died 2 January 2005 when he was struck by enemy small arms fire while his unit was conducting combat operations in Shindand, Afghanistan.

Munoz enlisted in the Army as an Automated Logistical Specialist in February 1986. He graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 1990 and was assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His previous deployments included Operations DESERT SHIELD/STORM, and Operation UPHOLD DEMOCRACY.

In 2002 SFC Munoz was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as an Operations and Intelligence Sergeant until his death during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
