A native of Shelbyville, Indiana, Sergeant First Class Marcus V. Muralles died 28 June 2005 when his aircraft was struck by a rocket propelled grenade near Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

Muralles enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in December 1988 and completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training before assignment to 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia. He was reclassified in 1998 as a Medical Sergeant. In 2003, he completed Green Platoon and was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia.

SFC Muralles was serving as an Aerial Flight Medic in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM at the time of his death.
