A native of Washington Depot, Connecticut, Major Stephen C. Reich died 28 June 2005 when his MH-47 Chinook was struck by a rocket propelled grenade near Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

On graduating from the United States Military Academy in 1993, Reich was commissioned in the Aviation Branch and completed helicopter pilot training in 1995. In 2001 he completed Green Platoon and joined the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

MAJ Reich was serving as commander, Company B, 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM at the time of his death.
