A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Sergeant First Class William R. Brown died on 6 November 2006 in Sperwan-Gar, Afghanistan, while supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Brown enlisted as in the Army as an Infantryman in 1994. Subsequently he served in 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia, and as an Army Recruiter in Dallas, Texas. He attended the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2004.

SFC Brown was assigned as a Weapons Sergeant to 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, when he was killed by an improvised explosive device that detonated near his vehicle.
