A native of Savannah, Georgia, Staff Sergeant Carlos Dominguez died on 23 September 2006 in Taji, Iraq, while supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
Dominguez was drafted into the Army in 1969 and served in a number of positions before leaving active duty in 1984. In 2001, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Chemical Operations Specialist. In 2005, he transferred to the U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and graduated as a Civil Affairs Specialist.
SSG Dominguez was assigned to 414th Civil Affairs Battalion, Utica, New York, when he sustained injuries from an improvised explosive device that detonated near his vehicle.
