SFC Richard J. Herrema

A native of Hudsonville, Michigan, Sergeant First Class Richard J. Herrema died 25 April 2006 while conducting combat operations in Iraq during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

Herrema enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in January 1999 and completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in June 2003 and was assigned as an instructor to 1st Battalion, 1st Special Warfare Training Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

At the time of his death, SFC Herrema was a Special Operations Team Member with the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.
