A native of Newark, New Jersey, Staff Sergeant Christian Longsworth died on 19 May 2006 in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, while supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Longsworth enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in 1998. He served in several Infantry and Ranger assignments, including serving as a Ranger Instructor with 6th Ranger Training Battalion, Fort Benning, Georgia. He completed the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2006.
SSG Longsworth was assigned as a Weapons Sergeant in 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, when he was mortally wounded as his convoy came under enemy small arms fire.
