A native of Bradford, Pennsylvania, Master Sergeant Thomas D. Maholic died on 24 June 2006 in Ghecko, Afghanistan while supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Maholic enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in 1991 and later transferred to active duty. In 1995, he completed the Special Forces Qualification Course, before being assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group. He later served as an Instructor at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
MSG Maholic was serving as a Team Sergeant in 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, when he was mortally wounded by enemy small arms fire during combat operations.
