A native of Kountze, Texas, Sergeant Daniel W. Winegeart died on 17 October 2006 in Baghdad, Iraq, when he suffered fatal injuries from a vehicle accident.

Winegeart enlisted in the Army in 2002 as an Electronics Repair Specialist. After Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia, he was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

SGT Winegeart was serving in the electronics maintenance shop of Group Support Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, when he died during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
