Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Staff Sergeant Joseph F. Curreri died on 27 October 2007 in Siet Lake, Jolo Island, Philippines.

Curreri graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of Southern California before enlisting in the Army as a Special Forces Candidate.

SSG Curreri was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, Fort Lewis, Washington, when he died from a non-combat related incident while supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM-PHILIPPINES.
