A native of Temecula, California, Captain Brian S. Freeman died on 20 January 2007 in Karbala, Iraq.
In 1999, Freeman graduated from the U.S. Military Academy and was commissioned as an Armor Officer. In 2002, he qualified for the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program at Fort Carson, Colorado, competing in bobsledding. In 2004, Freeman left active duty and joined the Individual Ready Reserve. In 2005, he was mobilized and deployed in 2006 with 412th Civil Affairs Battalion, Whitehall, Ohio, as a Civil Affairs Officer.
CPT Freeman suffered fatal wounds during an enemy mortar and small arms attack while supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
