A Texas native, Sergeant First Class Jeffrey D. Kettle died on 12 August 2007 in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, while supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Kettle enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in 1993 and completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. After serving in a variety of units including the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he completed the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2006.

SFC Kettle was assigned as an Engineer Sergeant to 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, when he sustained fatal wounds from an improvised explosive device that detonated near his vehicle.
