A native of Denton, Texas, Sergeant First Class Justin S. Monschke died on 14 October 2007 in Arab Jabour, Iraq, while supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

Monschke enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in 1997 and completed his Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. In 2002 he graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

SFC Monschke was assigned as a Weapons Sergeant in 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, when he suffered wounds from an improvised explosive device.
