A native of Magnolia, Texas, Staff Sergeant Jason L. Brown died on 17 April 2008 in Sama Village, Iraq, while supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

Brown enlisted as a Special Forces candidate in 2003. He attended the Special Forces Qualification Course at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and became Special Forces qualified in 2004.

SSG Brown was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, when he died of wounds sustained during an enemy attack involving small arms fire and grenades.
