A native of Merced, California, Staff Sergeant Frank J. Gasper died on 25 May 2008 near Dimaniyah, Iraq, from wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device.

Gasper enlisted in the Army in October 2002 as a Communications Specialist and completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia. After completing the Basic Airborne Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Fort Carson, Colorado.

SSG Gasper was serving in the Communications Platoon, 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, when he died while supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. It was his fourth deployment to Iraq.
