A native of Ciudad Acuna, Mexico, Sergeant First Class Alejandro Granado III was killed on 2 August 2009 in Qole Gerdsar, Afghanistan, by an improvised explosive device.

Granado enlisted in the Army as an Artilleryman in January 1988 and participated in Operations DESERT SHIELD/STORM. Joining the Mississippi Army National Guard, he graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2002 and was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group, Jackson, Mississippi.

SFC Granado was assigned as a Communications Sergeant in Company C, 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group, Camp McCain, Mississippi, when he was killed during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. He also served during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
