A native of Anniston, Alabama, Captain Kyle A. Comfort died on 8 May 2010 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered by an improvised explosive device. He was supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

After graduating from Jacksonville State University, Alabama, in 2006, Comfort was commissioned as a Field Artillery Officer. He was assigned as a Company Fire Support Officer and platoon leader with 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment and 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, deploying in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. After completing the Ranger Indoctrination Program, he was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia.

CPT Comfort was a Fire Support Officer for 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment when he was killed.
