A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Staff Sergeant Kevin M. Pape died 16 November 2010, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire while his unit was conducting combat operations in Konar Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Pape enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in September 2005. He served for five years with 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia.

SSG Pape graduated from the Ranger Indoctrination Program in April 2006 and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. He was serving as a squad leader at the time of his death.
