A longtime resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Staff Sergeant Mark A. Stets, Jr. was killed on 3 February 2010 in Timagara, Pakistan, by an improvised explosive device. He was supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Stets enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1989. After completing a tour of duty, he enlisted in the Army as an Artilleryman in 1995. In 2004 he graduated from the Psychological Operations Qualification Course, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
SSG Stets was serving as a Psychological Operations Sergeant in the 8th Psychological Operations Battalion, 4th Psychological Operations Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, when he was killed. This was his second deployment in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. He had previously served in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
