A native of Canyon Lake, Texas, Master Sergeant Benjamin A. Stevenson died 21 July 2011, of wounds sustained while his unit was conducting combat operations in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Stevenson enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in June 1993. After completing his Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was assigned to Company D, 325th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2000 and was assigned as a Special Forces Weapons Sergeant to 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

MSG Stevenson was selected as a Special Operations Team member in 2006 and assigned to United States Army Special Operations Command where he served until his death.
