A native of York, Pennsylvania, Staff Sergeant Brandon R. Pepper died 21 July 2012, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire while his unit was conducting combat operations in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Pepper enlisted in the Army as an Intelligence Analyst in January 2000. After completing his Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, he was assigned to the 323rd Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Meade, Maryland.

SSG Pepper graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2011 and was assigned as a Special Forces Communications Sergeant to 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served until his death.
