A native of Norton, Massachusetts, Master Sergeant Gregory R. Trent died 8 August 2012, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire while his unit was conducting combat operations in Shindand Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Trent enlisted in the Army as an Artilleryman in August 1998. After completing his Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 319th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

MSG Trent graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in August 2007 and was assigned as a Special Forces Communications Sergeant to 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served until his death.
