A native of Madison, Connecticut, Captain Andrew M. Pederson-Keel died on 11 March 2013 of wounds sustained from small arms fire in Wardak Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
On graduating from the United States Military Academy in May 2006, Pederson-Keel accepted a commission in the Army as an Infantry Officer. He served in the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, before attending the Special Forces Qualification Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
CPT Pederson-Keel graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in August 2012 and was serving as a Detachment Commander in 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, at the time of his death.
