A native of Independence, Kentucky, Specialist Christopher A. Landis died 10 February 2014, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire while his unit was conducting combat operations in Kapisa Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Landis enlisted in the Army as a Cryptologic Linguist in March 2011. He completed initial entry training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas.

SPC Landis was assigned to Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in August 2013, where he was serving at the time of his death.
