A native of York, Florida, Sergeant First Class Roberto C. Skelt, Jr. died 12 February 2014, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire while his unit was conducting combat operations in Kapisa Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Skelt enlisted in the Army as a Signal Support Systems Specialist in October 1990. He completed his Basic Individual Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He subsequently served in a variety of communications assignments in the United States and overseas.

SFC Skelt graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2005 and was assigned as a Special Forces Communications Sergeant to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was serving in 3rd Special Forces Group at the time of his death.
