A native of Greenville, Pennsylvania, Sergeant First Class Ryan A. Gloyer was killed in action on 3 November 2016, while his unit was conducting operations with Afghan allies in support of Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.

In 2004, Gloyer enlisted in the U.S. Army as an Airborne Infantryman. In April 2006, he earned the Ranger tab, followed by two tours in Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division. In 2014, he graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course as a Special Forces Communications Sergeant. After attending the Military Free Fall Parachute Course, he was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Fort Carson, Colorado. He deployed to Chad in 2015.

SFC Gloyer was serving in an Operational Detachment – Alpha in Company B, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group in Afghanistan when he was killed by small arms fire in Kunduz Province. He was supporting an anti-Taliban operation with the Afghan National Army.
