A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sergeant First Class Matthew McClintock died of wounds received in action, 5 January 2016, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.
McClintock enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in September 2006. After completing Basic Combat Training, Advanced Individual Training, and the Basic Airborne Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, he joined the 4th Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.
SFC McClintock graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in November 2010 and was assigned to the 1st Special Forces Group as a Special Forces Engineer Sergeant. In December 2014, he was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group, Buckley, Washington, in which he served until his death.
