A native of Ogden, Utah, Major Brent R. Taylor was killed by enemy small arms fire on 3 November 2018 in Kabul Province, Afghanistan, while supporting Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.

Taylor enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard in 2003, and in July 2006 he was commissioned as a Military Intelligence Officer. He served in numerous positions, including Platoon Leader, Mobile Training Team Chief, Explosive Ordinance Disposal Officer, and Recruit Sustainment Program Commander. Taylor deployed twice in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM from 2006 to 2008, and again in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in 2012.

MAJ Taylor was serving as a Combat Advisor on the Ktah Khas Advisory Team in support of U.S. Army Rangers at the time of his death.
