Originally from Berlin, New Hampshire, Staff Sergeant Tanner W. Grone died on 10 November 2023 when his MH-60M Black Hawk helicopter crashed in the Mediterranean Sea.

Grone enlisted in the Army in 2017 as a UH-60 Black Hawk Repairer. Following Advanced Individual Training, he was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) and completed the Enlisted Green Platoon training in 2018. He served briefly as a MH-60M Repairer in Foxtrot Maintenance Company, 1st Battalion, 160th SOAR, before reporting to Company C, 1st Battalion, 160th SOAR. He deployed multiple times with the 160th SOAR, often with little or no notice, in support of national security objectives.

SSG Grone was serving as a MH-60M Direct Action Penetrator Crew Chief at the time of his death.
