Bio
Drafted in 1958 and commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 1959, Raymond P. Ambrozak first served in the 1st Loudspeaker and Leaflet Company at Fort Bragg, NC. In 1961, he deployed with a psychological warfare (psywar) team to Laos to support Operation WHITE STAR. The following year, First Lieutenant Ambrozak reported to the U.S. Army Broadcast and Visual Activity, Pacific, on Okinawa, training friendly forces in psywar and counterinsurgency.
In 1964, Captain Ambrozak deployed to Vietnam. He supported the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG) by helping to establish the Voice of Freedom radio station. He returned to Vietnam in 1966 as the S-3, 6th Psychological Operations (PSYOP) Battalion, and facilitated the activation of 4th PSYOP Group.
From 1967 to 1970, he was an instructor at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (USAJFKSWCS). In 1970, Major (MAJ) Ambrozak returned to Vietnam as the MACV Senior Advisor, Phu Nhon District, Pleiku Province. He was awarded the Silver Star for heroism in a 15-16 March 1971 firefight.
He spent the remainder of his career at Fort Hood, TX, where he retired in 1978. Inducted as a Distinguished Member of the PSYOP Regiment in 2016, retired MAJ Ambrozak was further inducted into the U.S. Special Operations Command Commando Hall of Honor in 2018.
