Bio

Commissioned in the Infantry in 1971, Jeffrey B. Jones served with the 2/509th Airborne in Germany, before commanding Company A, 2/17th Infantry, Fort Ord, CA, and becoming Aide-de-Camp to the CG, 7th Infantry Division, in 1976. Then-Major Jones served in the Department of the Army G-3, before leading a UN team in Beirut, Lebanon. Promoted to lieutenant colonel (LTC) in 1985, he represented the Joint Staff at nuclear arms negotiations in Switzerland.

His association with Psychological Operations (PSYOP) began in 1989, when he took command of 8th PSYOP Battalion, at Fort Bragg, NC. Deploying to Panama for Operation PROMOTE LIBERTY in 1990, he led the PSYOP element in helping restore that country after JUST CAUSE. In 1990, he deployed to Saudi Arabia, for Operation DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM, in which PSYOP contributed to thousands of enemy surrenders or defections.

In 1991, Colonel (COL) Jones joined the National Security Council (NSC) to support presidential peacekeeping initiatives, before assuming command of 4th PSYOP Group. The senior PSYOP Officer in the active Army, he deployed to Haiti in 1994 for UPHOLD DEMOCRACY, and to the Middle East for PROVIDE COMFORT. Following a stint as Chief, Special Operations Division, in the Joint Staff J-3, he became the Defense Attaché in Paris, France, in 1998.

After retirement in 2001, he served as Senior Director for Strategic Communication, NSC, until 2005. Posthumously honored as a Distinguished Member of the PSYOP Regiment in 2012, Jones was further inducted into the U.S. Special Operations Command Commando Hall of Honor in 2013.
